This policy explains what personal data FindMyFitBuddy collects, why we use it, who we share it with and what rights you have. A Dutch version is included in our Algemene Voorwaarden & Privacyverklaring.
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to FindMyFitBuddy: the FindMyFitBuddy mobile apps for iOS and Android (“the App”) and the website findmyfitbuddy.nl (“the Website”), together “the Service”. FindMyFitBuddy helps people find a local partner for sports and exercise.
The Service is operated by FindMyFitBuddy, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) under number 97161748, based in Helmond, the Netherlands. FindMyFitBuddy is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
2. Personal data we collect
Mobile app
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, gender, age and profile photos.
- Sign-in details when you log in with Facebook, Google or Apple (for example your name and email address as shared by that provider).
- Preferences: sports, goals and hobbies.
- Gym: if you select a gym, its identifier, name, address and coordinates.
- Approximate location, used to show matches and activities near you.
- Connections and messages: buddy requests and chat messages you exchange with other users.
- Technical data: crash reports and a device token for push notifications.
- Phone number verification by SMS.
Website
- Account details: when you sign in with Google, your Google account email address and a unique account identifier.
- Website sports profile (optional): first name, city, sports and experience levels, general availability, a short introduction, whether your profile is visible to others, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Profile photo (optional): a photo you upload. It is stored privately and shown only to signed-in members allowed to see your profile.
- Weekly availability (optional): time ranges, time zone and date exceptions you save.
- Poll events (optional): events you create, the options you vote on and your attendance responses.
- The Website does not request your device location; you enter your city yourself.
- Messaging and buddy requests on the Website are not yet available; the profiles shown there for demonstration are fictional.
3. How we use your data
We process this data to provide the Service you asked for, based on your consent where we ask for it (for example optional profile fields and photos), and on our legitimate interest in keeping the Service secure. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
- To show your profile to other users according to your visibility settings, and to help you find compatible sports partners and activities.
- To enable buddy requests, chats and events in the App.
- To compare availability with other members and organise poll events on the Website.
- To send notifications and reminders in the App.
- To verify phone numbers by SMS.
- To keep the Service safe, enforce our terms (including blocking and banning), improve performance and fix errors.
4. Who can see your profile
- Signed-out visitors to the Website can only see limited information from visible profiles: first name, city, sports, levels and general availability.
- Photos, introductions and detailed availability are only shown to signed-in members, and never to users you have blocked or who have blocked you.
- Profiles you set to not visible do not appear in search.
- Profiles of minors (under 18) are not visible to adults.
5. Service providers we use
We share personal data only with providers that help us run the Service:
- Supabase — account sign-in, database and file storage (App and Website).
- Firebase (Google) — push notifications and crash reports (App).
- Twilio — SMS phone number verification (App).
- Google, Apple and Facebook — sign-in services, when you choose to use them.
- Google — gym search and gym information, when you select a gym (App).
- Google Fonts — the Website loads its fonts from Google, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
- Our website hosting provider, which processes technical request data (such as IP address) to deliver the Website.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
The Website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. It stores a small amount of information in your browser’s local storage that is necessary for it to work: your sign-in session (so you stay signed in) and whether you closed the announcement banner. You can clear this at any time in your browser settings; you will then be signed out.
7. Storage and international transfers
Your data is stored with the providers listed above. Some of them are based in, or use infrastructure in, countries outside the European Economic Area, such as the United States.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. For example, website profile photos are stored in private storage and are only served after checking who is allowed to see them.
8. How long we keep data
We keep personal data only for as long as needed to provide the Service, or as required by law. When you delete your account, or ask us to delete your data, we delete your profile data. Photos you remove are deleted from storage.
9. Deleting your account and data
- In the App you can delete your account from within the App.
- On the Website you can remove your profile photo at any time and edit or hide your sports profile.
- You can always ask us to delete your account and data by emailing contact@findmyfitbuddy.nl from the email address linked to your account.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR (AVG) you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct or delete your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- File a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
11. Children
- The App is intended for users aged 16 and older. Users under 16 may need parental consent.
- Profiles of minors (under 18) are not visible to adults.
- Creating a sports profile on the Website requires confirming that you are 18 or older.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will publish the updated version on this page.
